Positive COVID-19 Case at Cameco Fuel Manufacturing Cobourg

In Local

On April 9, 2021, Cameco became aware that a Cameco employee from Cameco Fuel Manufacturing (CFM) in Cobourg has tested positive for COVID-19. The employee was last at work in the morning of April 9 and was not experiencing any symptoms.

This employee had made a personal decision to seek testing because of the recent community spread in the area. Once notified of the positive result, this individual left the facility and contacted the site nurse. Cameco is providing the affected employee with support to ensure they have the resources they need. Our thoughts are with them and we hope that they recover well.

Cleaning and disinfection protocols established in the event of a suspected positive COVID-19 case were quickly carried out as soon as we became aware of the positive test result on April 9.

This individual followed all COVID-19 protocols while at work including wearing a medical grade mask. However, because of the surge of COVID-19 cases in the local area and out of an abundance of caution, a handful of employees have been sent home to self-isolate and seek a COVID-19 test. There is no impact to operations.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, we have developed and implemented a significant complement of proactive measures to help minimize the potential risk of exposure and transmission of COVID-19. At the end of March, Cameco implemented weekly rapid antigen COVID-19 testing across our Ontario operations as an additional tool to help detect and prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the workplace. This testing will be offered to all CFM Cobourg employees on Monday and again on Friday next week.

The health and safety of all our employees remains our top priority and we are working with our company medical team and public health authorities and continue to follow their guidance.
