Northumberland OPP – Driver Charged with Impaired After Collision on Highway 401 East of Colborne

In Police Blotter

Members from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a driver after a motor vehicle collision on Highway 401 on Thursday February 11, 2021.

At approximately 7:15 pm an officer travelling westbound on Highway 401 between Brighton and Colborne observed a vehicle on its roof in the east bound lanes just west of County Road 30. Initial investigation shows the silver coloured Chevrolet passenger van was travelling eastbound when it struck a steel guardrail on the south side of the highway, the vehicle then rolled scattering debris across both eastbound lanes before landing on its roof near the concrete median. The collision caused the highway to be closed and traffic to be rerouted as crews cleaned up the debris and removed the vehicle off the highway.

While at the scene, officers began an impaired driving investigation and, subsequently, arrested the driver of the motor vehicle once he was cleared from being assessed by paramedics.

As a result of the investigation Raymond NEVILLE (age 39) of Ajax, Ontario, has been charged with:

· Operation while impaired – alcohol
· Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on a date in March 2021.

The Northumberland County OPP reminds motorists that any amount of alcohol or drugs can impact your ability to make sound judgements.
