Video – Durham Police – Suspect Wanted After a Tow-Truck Arson in Ajax

Investigators are looking for the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect who fled from police after a vehicle arson this morning in Ajax.

On Friday, January 8, 2021, at approximately 6:10 p.m., members of West Division responded to a vehicle fire on Gamble Drive in Ajax. Officers arrived to find a Chevrolet tow-truck fully engulfed in flames. The fire was extinguished by Ajax Fire and Emergency Services. There were no reported injuries. Police spotted the suspect vehicle driving near the scene and attempted to pull it over. The suspect failed to stop for police and drove off at a high rate of speed. The suspect vehicle, a red/orange SUV was last seen in the area of Harwood Avenue and Kingston Road in Ajax.

Investigators are treating this as an arson.

The suspect is described as male and he fled the scene in a red/orange SUV.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Det. Hawkes of the West Division Criminal Investigations Bureau at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 2528.

Anonymous information can be sent to Durham Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 and tipsters may be eligible for a $2,000 cash reward.
