Breaking News – Investigators Trying to Determine Cause of Fatal Fire In Bewdley

Investigators are trying to determine the cause of a fire when a elderly man was found deceased in Bewdley on Sunday, November 22, 2020.

At approximately 6:30 a.m. emergency services including Northumberland OPP and Hamilton Township Fire Department were dispatched to a residence with four apartment units on Main Street in Bewdley.

There were visible signs of a fire in a small porch area of one of the apartments, but the fire was out when emergency services arrived.

A elderly man’s body was found in the area of where the fire had taken place.

The deceased individual was a smoker and there was also a propane heater inside the small porch which was surrounded by plastic.

It’s unknown when the fire occurred overnight.

The Ontario Fire Marshal’s office, Hamilton Township Fire Department, Northumberland OPP, Northumberland OPP Crime Unit along with the coroner are investigating to determine how the fire started and how the individual died.

Relatives of the deceased man have been notified.
