Mr. Tambourine Man Walks The Streets of Port Hope Bringing Joy to People

In Community, Editor Choice, Local

You may not know his name, but if you’re a frequent person in downtown Port Hope you’ve likely seen him, or at least heard him.

From Tuesday to Saturday, 64-year-old Robert De Lafranier walks all around Port Hope including the downtown area.

De Lafranier doesn’t really walk downtown, he dances – for hours.

Since COVID changed everything around March, De Lafranier can’t sing in the church choir and misses the participation.

So he’s been taking the music to the streets and people love it.

Honking their horns, waving, and smiling as they walk by De Lafranier seems to bring joy wherever he goes.

Last month one of his fans even gave him a tambourine he now uses.

Like many others COVID has been hard on him, but De Lafranier wants to give a boost to people all over Port Hope.
