Chief’s Challenge A Win for Cornerstone Family Violence Prevention Centre

Cornerstone Family Violence Prevention Centre held a “Chief’s Challenge” on Wednesday, September 23, 2020 in Port Hope.

It was Chief Bryant Wood and Deputy Chief Darren Strongman of the Port Hope Police Department pitted against the Chief C. Ryan Edgar and Deputy Chief Dan Smith of the Port Hope Fire Department.

There were two challenges set up for the participants. The first was at the firehall on Ontario Street. It was similar to a firefighters challenge with a number of obstacles the competitors had to manage.

The added challenge was, they were wearing red high heels to signify the Walk A Mile In Her Shoes annual event that went virtual this year due to COVID-19.

The next event was held at the Port Hope Police Station on Fox Road.

It simulated a prisoner escaping out the back entrance of the police station.

Once again, the Chief’s were wearing red high heels for the competition.

After catching the “suspect” he was put in handcuffs and placed in the cells of the police station.

But after a hard workout catching the bad guy, to finish off the competition, they had to eat a donut.

In the end, ironically, the police won the firefighters challenge, and the firefighters won the police challenge.

But the Port Hope Fire Department had the quickest time for both events.

The event was all in good fun with the winner of the event being the Cornerstone Family Violence and Prevention Centre.
