Cobourg Prepares to Safely Open Victoria Beach for Weekday Use Only

In City Hall

The beach will remain closed on the weekends until October 14th.

At the August 31st Regular Council meeting Municipal Council instructed Town staff to reopen Victoria Beach for active recreational activities beginning Tuesday, September 8th, during the week and closed on the weekends.

“I know that many in our community have been looking forward to utilizing our beautiful beach once again and I am urging all beach goers to practice physical distancing so we can continue moving forward safely,” said Mayor John Henderson.

Beginning Tuesday, September 8th, Victoria Beach will be open from Monday to Friday for recreational use, including swimming, walking and running, kitesurfing and other similar recreational activities. The beach will remain closed on the weekends from Saturday until Sunday until October 14th when the fencing will be removed and the beach reopened in its entirety.

A reminder to all beach goers that there will be no lifeguards on duty, the canteen remains closed as well as restroom facilities. Porta-potties will however remain in place and are stationed on the southend of Division Street and in Victoria Park. As a precautionary measure, all porta-potties are disinfected on a regular basis to deter the spread of the virus.

The Town of Cobourg is asking all beach goers to please abide by specific rules that remain paramount to limiting the spread of COVID-19, including:
· Staying 6 feet from others at all times. Members of the same household are exempted.

· Avoiding crowded areas.

· Wearing face coverings when in close contact with people outside of one’s household.

· Providing adequate physical distancing of 6 feet or more when passing others.

· Stay home if you’re sick.

· Wash or sanitize your hands regularly, including before and after visiting the beach.

In June, the Town of Cobourg temporarily closed the beach to help prevent the spread of COVID
