City of Kawartha Lakes OPP – More Than 15,000 Cannabis Plants Seized

An investigation led by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) from the City of Kawartha Lakes and Haliburton Highlands detachments resulted in the seizure of 15 300 cannabis plants.

On August 27, 2020 a Cannabis Act Warrant was executed at a rural property within the City of Kawartha Lakes, with the assistance of the CSCU from the Peterborough and Northumberland OPP detachments as well as the Central Region Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Canine Unit. Nine persons were detained and some of the items seized included:

15 300 Cannabis plants

cannabis bud

motor vehicles

industrial sized dehumidifiers

generators

riding lawnmower

The property featured a very structured growing site that was being operated outside of the Health Canada regulations. The investigation is on-going.
