Ed’s House Virtual Hike for Hospice Raises Over $25,000

In Community

This year’s virtual Ed’s House Hike for Hospice raised more than $25,000 for Community Care Northumberland’s Hospice Services program, exceeding the original goal of $20,000.

The August 2020 fundraising event welcomed over 35 participants who completed their ‘hike’ where, when and how they wanted to raise funds for hospice services in the community while promoting physical distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Members of the community recognize the value of local, accessible hospice services, which is reflected in the generosity of donors and dedication of event participants,” said Trish Baird, Chief Executive Officer of Community Care Northumberland. “We are very fortunate for and appreciative of the support we have received and continue to receive that allows us to provide a range of services to hospice clients and their families throughout Northumberland County.”

“The pandemic may have reshaped the way we hiked this year, but it sure didn’t stop us!” said Jen Calver, Community Care Northumberland’s Director of Hospice Services. “Thank you to everyone who came together to participate in and/or support our virtual hike for hospice care services. We are grateful for your unwavering support and engagement. All proceeds from the hike are dedicated to ensuring each person with a life-limiting illness can live each day to the fullest and their loves ones can receive consistent support throughout the hospice journey. Your support and participation in these events are integral to the hospice palliative care services and ongoing support, comfort and care we can provide to clients in the community, residents at the hospice care centre and to their loved ones.”

Fundraised dollars from the annual Hike for Hospice directly support Community Care Northumberland’s Hospice Services program which provides palliative support, caregiver support, education, health system navigation and grief and bereavement support to hospice clients and their loved ones.

CCN will expand its services to include resident hospice care upon the opening of Ed’s House Northumberland Hospice Care Centre this fall.

Last year’s hike raised a total of $15,754.88.
