Emergency services were called to the scene of a ATV collision on Saturday, August 15, 2020 south of Harwood.

Northumberland OPP, Northumberland County Paramedics and Hamilton Township Fire Department were dispatched at approximately 5:30 p.m. to the intersection of Old School House Road and Harwood Road.

A ATV was heading north bound on Harwood Road with two riders. When it turned onto Old School House Road, it left the roadway and struck a hydro pole, snapping the pole.

Support wires from the pole were across Harwood Road.

One of the riders on the ATV was pronounced deceased at the scene. The other rider was taken to a local area hospital in Cobourg, but has since been transported to a trauma center in Toronto with serious injuries.

It`s believed neither rider was wearing a helmet.

Old School House Road and Harwood Road are currently closed between Rice Lake Scenic Drive and Corkery Road. They are expected to be closed for several hours, while OPP members trained in collision reconstruction measure and document the scene. The circumstances surrounding this collision remain under investigation.

The identity of deceased is being withheld pending confirmation of next of kin  notification.
