Cobourg Police – S.T.E.P Traffic Safety Initiative: August – Stop Sign Enforcement

The Cobourg Police Service Is determined to make our community roadways as safe as possible, through enforcement and education. Traffic Safety initiatives have been increased yearly through the implementation of our monthly selective traffic enforcement program (S. T . E. P.).

The Cobourg Police Service will continue its monthly traffic initiatives into August, focusing on stop sign violations. Officers will be monitoring various intersections in the town of Cobourg ensuring that motorists are complying with the Highway Traffic Act as it relates to stop signs. Drivers are reminded to come to a complete stop at all stop signs before proceeding or making a turn.
Stop sign violations include:

· Disobey Stop Sign- Stop wrong place: Section 136(1)(a)- Highway Traffic Act
· Disobey Stop Sign- Fail to stop: Section 136(1)(a)- Highway Traffic Act

Both violations under the Highway Traffic Act carry a $110.00 fine and 3 demerit points.
