Cobourg Police – Adult Males Arrested for Assault Police and Obstruct Police

On the 4th of June 2020 uniform members of the Cobourg Police Service were called to a local park in the west end of the Town of Cobourg for a disturbance possibly involving several people. On arrival police observed and spoke with two intoxicated males who became verbally, and physically aggressive resulting in them assaulting the police officers in attendance. Police deployed a conducted energy weapon (also known as a Taser) in order to safely effect the arrest.

30-year-old Thomas WYBENGA of Cobourg was charged with Assault With Intent to Resist Arrest Sec. 270(1)(b) and Causing a Disturbance Sec. 175(1)(a), both contrary to the Criminal Code and being intoxicated in a public place contrary to the Liquor Licence Act Sec. 31(4).

29-year-old Kevin WYBENGA of Cobourg was charged with Obstruct Peace Officer contrary to the Criminal Code Sec. 129(a) and being intoxicated in a public place contrary to the Liquor Licence Act Sec. 31(4).

Both adults were transported to the Cobourg Police Service and later released on a Form 11, Undertaking with conditions and a future court date.
