Thick Black Smoke From Fire Attracts Attention In Cobourg

A fire in Cobourg on Friday, May 22, 2020 attracted a lot of attention after plumes of smoke could be viewed for kilometres.

Cobourg Fire Department received the call for heavy black smoke coming from behind a residence on Ontario Street just north of the south railway tracks at approximately 6:45 p.m.

Once on scene firefighters discovered brush was burning along a fence line at the rear of a residence and numerous old appliances were burning.

The fire was quickly extinguished while Cobourg Police closed Ontario Street in the area.

Residents of the home were alerted to the fire from a passerby who spotted the flames.

There was minimal damage and no cause.
