HKPR Health Unit States Local Woman With COVID-19 Self Isolated Before Being Tested For Virus

In Local

Today’s Northumberland reached out to the HKPR District Health Unit as a number of readers were concerned about the lack of information being given about the woman who tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday, March 13, 2020.

Chandra Tremblay is the Manager of Corporate Services with the HKPR District Health Unit and stated as follows:

“In order to protect the privacy of the individual, the Health Unit will not be releasing any additional personal information about this woman.

What we can say is that she is self-isolating and recovering at home and that public health nurses are contacting anyone who may have been in close contact with her. As the woman was not feeling well, she had isolated herself at home prior to being tested on March 11.

There are many ways people can protect themselves from COVID-19.

The easiest ways they can protect their health include washing their hands frequently and thoroughly with soap and water for a minimum of 20 seconds, or using an alcohol-based hand sanitizer; avoiding touching their eyes, mouth and nose as much as possible; covering their mouth and nose with a tissue when they cough or sneeze, then throwing the tissue in the trash and washing their hands; and staying home if they or a family member are ill.

Everyone is now being asked to not travel outside of Canada, refrain from visiting people in long-term care homes or retirement homes, and not participating in any events where there are large groups of people.

These are all ways we can do our part to protect ourselves and our families from the spread of COVID-19.”
