The seventh annual Caroling with the Donkeys took place on Sunday, December 15, 2019 at PrimRose Donkey Sanctuary.
Vehicles lined Bowmanton Road for the event the brings people from across Northumberland County and beyond.
Founder of The PrimRose Donkey Sanctuary, Sheila Burns said, “this is absolutely fabulous. I can’t believe the number of people who came out.”
The star of the day was 45-year-old PrimRose the donkey who got dressed up in Christmas attire for the occasion.
Burns said she got PrimRose 25-years ago when she lived in Georgetown, Ontario.
“I had an empty barn and I didn’t want to have horses or cows. I met a lady who actually found PrimRose and that’s how it started.”
When Burns moved to Alnwick/Haldimand Township she had 12 donkeys, but now has 55.
“It’s a sanctuary where I take in abused, neglected, unwanted donkeys.”
“This day is so amazing. My heart is so full and I couldn’t do this without the 33 volunteers that come from as far as Toronto.”
From the start, Burns said the support from the community has been very receptive.
“This is all for PrimRose and her buddies.”
The PrimRose Donkey Sanctuary is a registered Canadian charity.
