Northumberland Hills Hospital Christmas Courtyard Created By “Labour of Love”

In Community

The Courtyard of Northumberland Hills Hospital has once again turned into a winter setting.

The Rotary Club of Cobourg Courtyard was completed last week just prior to the snow and Special Events Officer for Northumberland Hills Hospital Foundation, Natasha Jacobs said, “we are so grateful to all the amazing volunteers that took the time out to create the beautiful holiday display. Jim Maguire and his crew have created this labour of love to bring some cheer to patients, staff, volunteers and visitors who will be in the hospital over the holiday season.”

Approximately 10 volunteers completed the courtyard on Tuesday, November 26, 2019.

Dave Cromlish said decorating the courtyard started approximately a decade ago when he was on the NHH Board.

“It hopefully makes the time of year, easier and brighter for patients, their families and staff members.”

After gaining momentum over the years Cromlish said it’s important to continue the tradition.

“I think it’s important for the hospital, patients, the patients families and staff.”

“We’ve had great feedback over the years what the courtyard looks like.”

“Jim Maguire has done a fantastic job with the new construction that’s been happening with the Gingerbread houses and other items.”

Maguire has put in “countless hours” creating the buildings and painting them with other volunteers.

With the way the courtyard is situated there is something visually to see all around the area.

“It’s mostly by the Bistro, but we do try to cover the entire courtyard so basically any window that you’re looking out of has a view of the courtyard and something to look at.”

Cromlish said it’s always nice to hear the comments from people about the work the volunteers have done.

The bulk of the money to create the courtyard has come from Cromlish and his wife Rosie along with Jim Maguire.

“We don’t ask for donations. We’d like to see any money go towards medical equipment.”
