Today’s Northumberland has learned more information regarding the arrest of Rodney Starke last week by RCMP.

On July 22, 2019 Starke was reported missing by Cobourg Police.

Today’s Northumberland was first to break the story that Starke was wanted on a Canada Wide Warrant after they determined he was in contravention of his Long Term Supervision Order.

Starke disappeared after being released from Warkworth Institution and dropped at the train station in Cobourg.

A police source at the time indicated Starke is, “a very dangerous individual in my books.”

Starke had been released after a 17-year sentence for a violent assault on a woman. It was his second sentence after serving a number of years for sexually assaulting and stabbing a woman on the pretext of buying her car.

Last Wednesday, October 3, 2019 Cobourg Police were made aware that Starke had been located and arrested on the warrant issued by Corrections Canada.

Cobourg Police referred any inquires to Corrections Canada for details.

Media relations with Corrections Canada, Laura Prosser stated in an e-mail to Today’s Northumberland, “Regarding the arrest of Rodney Starke, due to the Privacy Act CSC is unable to provide details on the arrest. CSC only issued a warrant for arrest because we believed that Starke was no longer able to be managed in the community. It is the Parole Board who will then determine whether to revoke his conditional release. Any decisions about an offender’s conditional release can be released by the Parole Board if you put forth an application for a decision registry.”

But a source close to the investigation has told Today’s Northumberland that Starke was arrested in Swift Current in a stolen vehicle on October 3, 2019.

He is currently facing numerous charges in connection with the stolen vehicle that was from a dealership in Manitoba.

Also found inside the vehicle were knives, a balaclava, and restraints.

As of Monday, October 7, 2019 Cobourg Police still have Starke as missing in the news reports and “there is concern for Starke’s wellbeing.”
