Exclusive – The Cobourg Police Service is assisting with the Office of the Coroner after a woman died at Transition House on Chapel Street in Cobourg.

Emergency services responded to Transition House at 11:45 p.m. on September 30, 2019 for a person who was vital signs absent (vsa).

Cobourg Police Chief Paul VandeGraaf would only say, it is a “non-suspicious death” and would not confirm it was Transition House located at 10 Chapel Street in Cobourg.

Several sources have confirmed the location and that it was a woman who died.

Transition House is a six bedroom, 24-bed residential emergency shelter for men and women 18-years-old and older. There are 11 staff employed at Transition House with basic first aid training including CPR.

In a previous story, Today’s Northumberland reported in the first six months of 2019 emergency services have responded to Transition House over 200 times.

It was closed for several months after it sustained “considerable” damage after an assault, but re-opened in October 2018.

Since that time it has become a “low threshold” facility so people with addictions or mental health issues are not turned away.
