Port Hope Joining Global Climate Strike

In Upcoming Events

On Friday September 27, concerned citizens of all ages will gather at the Memorial Park Bandshell in support of the global #FridaysForFuture climate strike movement.

Organized by a group of local families, the event will be held in tandem with community events and student strikes across the country and around the world calling on all adults, business leaders and politicians to take measures now to curb and halt climate change. This is the second major day of action this month, building on the momentum of the 20 September protests which were likely the largest climate strikes in world history with over 4 million people participating in strikes worldwide.

Community members in attendance will be expressing their views on climate change through sign-making, a children’s art display depicting their hopes for the future and a climate march through downtown Port Hope.

The first climate strike in Port Hope on May 3 brought together more than 200 members of our community. We anticipate broader support this week, recognizing the attention gained by recent actions elsewhere.

The 27 September climate strikes are being supported broadly by unions and school boards across the country.
