Cobourg Police Team Up With Ministry of Environment

In Police Blotter

Cobourg Police teamed up with the Ministry of Environment on Friday, August 23, 2019 looking for modified vehicles.

“We still get constant complaints of unnecessary noise and emissions,” said Sgt. Mike Richardson.

“We’re looking primarily for modified motor vehicles with exhaust that almost appears like a soup can on the back.”

One of the vehicles MOE and police inspected was along Elgin Street near William Street.

The vehicle was pulled over because the vehicle had no muffler.

“Subsequent to him being pulled over, he has a major radiator/coolant leak dripping down the road.”

Richardson also performed a roadside safety inspection on the vehicle by checking signals, horn and other standard features that a vehicle must pass to be road worthy.

“Each motor vehicle must have two operating braking systems including emergency brakes along with standard braking system.”

The driver was charged with defective braking system and given a fine of $110 and the vehicle was towed from the scene.

“We will be continuing this with the Ministry of Environment. It’s an awesome partnership.”
