Breaking News – “Insanity” of Policing In Cobourg States Veteran Officer

In Editor Choice, Local

A police officers social media post on Saturday, July 6, 2019 apparently exposes the concerns of policing in Cobourg.

Veteran Cobourg Police Constable Larry Davis posted on Facebook on Saturday morning, “absolute insanity these days in policing.”

Davis goes on to state, “today I am one of two officers in Cobourg till 6 p.m.”

“Responsible for roughly 18,000 residents, a full beach and music fest to boot downtown.”

Ending the post by stating, “have a safe weekend everybody!!!”

Downtown Cobourg was blocked off with a food and music festival from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m.

There was also a beach volleyball tournament on Cobourg beach.

On a busy summer Saturday in Cobourg it works out to one officer for approximately 10,000 people.

Today’s Northumberland reached out to Cobourg Police Services Board Chair Dean Pepper, Chief Kai Liu and Communications Coordinator Laurie Debattista for comment on Davis’ post.

“This is an HR (Human Resources) issue that we cannot discuss publicly,” stated Debattista.

“The Deputy Chief says the Association Executive and Senior Management Team are aware of this and are working collaboratively to resolve.”

Chief Liu added, “I spoke with Laurie and advised her this was HR issue and the background.”
