Cobourg Police – Stunt Driving and Unnecessary Noise

Just after 4:00 pm, on July 1, 2019, an officer who was conducting traffic enforcement in the Town of Cobourg, observed a motorcycle travelling at excessive speeds. After investigation using radar, it was confirmed that the driver was driving at speeds two times over the posted speed limit as well causing unnecessary noise from the loud exhaust pipes.

As a result of the traffic stop, the driver, a 43-year-old Peterborough man was charged, with:

Charge #1: Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform Stunt – Speeding By 50 or More Km/Hr; and

Charge #2: Unnecessary Noise.

The above charges area both contrary to the Highway Traffic Act, the fine for Stunt Driving can be up to $10,000.00, with six demerit points and can also lead up to six months in jail and the fine for Unnecessary Noise can be up to $2,000.00. The driver’s Ontario Driver’s Licence was suspended for seven days and the motorcycle was impounded for seven days.

The driver was served with, two Part III Summons to a Defendant with a court date of August 2019.
