Classic Canadian Canada Day In Port Hope

In Community, Editor Choice, Local

It was definitely a celebratory day in Port Hope on July 1, 2019.

Celebrating Canada’s birthday the spirit and enthusiasm were in the air.

Right from the start in the morning with Adam Pearson leaping in the air with his Canadian flag cape on, you knew it would be a special day.

There were smiles, smiles and more smiles throughout the day.

Members of the Port Hope Police Association, Port Hope Police and members of the Parks and Rec Department held a free pancake breakfast with sausages in the morning.

At times people would pass by and ask one of the cooks, “how much?” and when they were told it was free – more smiles.

Pearson was busy putting together a colourful Canadian flag of over 400 cupcakes in Memorial Park while a yoga class was taking place.

And just across the road in a Canada Day Show N’Shine with vintage, antique and classic cars.

It was a day for family and for celebrating the great country in the world.

The parade along Walton Street, to Queen and finally ending up in Memorial Park was simply amazing.

Bands, floats, dancing, the spirit of Canada shined brightly in Port Hope on Canada Day.

And shortly after 10 p.m. over 1,600 fireworks capped off the day.

It took over 150 hours for the 13 members of the Port Hope Kinsmen Club to set up the colourful display with heights reaching 400 feet and beyond.
