Flood Awareness and Preparation. Brighton, Ontario
As levels of Lake Ontario continue to rise the Municipality of Brighton wants to remind those that may be affected by flooding conditions that the Municipality will provide sand and bags to assist with the protection of residents in the effected areas. There are 2 methods to obtain sandbags for property protection.
Method 1 The Municipality will provide 5 locations where bulk sand and bags will be provided for residents to fill and transport back to their own property. These locations are: – Shoal Point Road – Gosport at the boat ramp – 67 Sharp Rd – Ontario Street at the boat ramp – Greenway Circle
Method 2 The Public Works Department has modified plow trucks to enable on-site sandbag filling on a priority basis. This level of service will only be available as equipment and staff resources permit.
Those requiring assistance can call the Public Works Department at 61 3-475-1 162 during regular business hours or 613-967-8707 after hours. A member of our team will be deployed on a priority basis to evaluate the situation.

With the high winds creating a surge on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 the shoreline along Lake Ontario is starting to look reminiscent of 2017.
In Port Hope along the walking trail east of Lake Street part of the trail that eroded in 2017 has once again been damaged by the rising water.
Along the trail some parts have been damaged while other areas have completely eroded away.
Debris from the lake is starting to once to cover parts of the trail.
In Cobourg the surge of water on Wednesday had water up to near some of the lifeguard stands.
Residents of Gosport south of Brighton are hoping for the best, but preparing for the worst as numerous bulk sand and sand bags have been dumped in areas along the shoreline for residents.
In some areas it appears the mounds of sand haven’t been touched by residents and in others the mounds of sand have been turned into bags of sand.
