Superman Drops By Cobourg Comicon

In Community, Local

Superman was a surprise special guest at the annual Cobourg Comicon on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at the Cobourg Community Centre.
The only difference is it wasn’t Clark Kent behind the cape, it was Cobourg councillor Adam Bureau.
There were 30 vendors selling comic books, toys, jewellery, prints, and many other items related to the comic book industry.
“I thought it would be fun to come out dressed up as Superman and put a few smiles on peoples faces,” said Bureau.
“It’s great to come out and show support events in the community and I thought I’d take it to the next level of participating by dressing up.”
Bureau said posing as Superman was a last minute decision, but it worked out great.
David Wyldstar said he’s been organizing comicons for three decades and this is the first time someone has dressed up as Superman.
“Lots of Spiderman’s and a few Batman’s, but we’ve never had a Superman.”
Wyldstar said over the decades comic books have still maintained their popularity.
“Comic books with all the superhero movies that are coming out like The Avengers, Shazam, Captain Marvel and Spiderman.”
“Comic books in general are really popular with all ages and all kids.”
Years ago there used to be specialized conventions for popular movies or shows like Star Trek or Star Wards, but because people are becoming fans of everything they are now called comicons.
“It’s not just about comic books it’s about the comic book lifestyle, the jewellery, the socks, anything that is comic book related.”
Organizers were hoping to raise 300 to 500 pounds of food for the local foodbank.
