Sweet Pea Recovering After Surgery Thanks To Generous Donation

In Community, Local

Sweet Pea, a one-year-old stray cat is on her way to recovery after having a leg amputated.
The cat was found by a concerned Brighton resident with what appeared to be a back-end injury.
After veterinary examination, the cat was found to have a fractured hind leg and was surrendered into the care of the Northumberland Humane Society.
Under the dedicated care of Dr. Mike Woodward at the Northumberland Veterinary Service in Colborne, Sweet Pea was admitted for hospital care and underwent procedures to address her leg. Staff at Northumberland Veterinary Service worked to manage the leg in hopes that she would make a full recovery.
When Sweet Pea failed to show progress in her healing, a hind-leg amputation was the only option to give Sweet Pea the best quality of life. Thanks to a generous donation of $1,000 from Wernfrid Doll at Edward Jones Investments located in downtown Cobourg, Sweet Pea underwent surgery and has now returned to their Northumberland Humane Society where she is looking for her “forever home,” says Northumberland Humane Society General Manager Kate Lennan.
Lennan said the cat is living up to her name with her affectionate snuggles and outgoing personality.
“Without the dedication and support of community partners and supporters, we would not be able to save animals such as Sweet Pea.”
In 2018, the Northumberland Humane Society took in 330 cats.
