Pilot Program, in partnership with the Cobourg Police Service and other community organizations addresses acute need in community
A number of local organizations, agencies and businesses are coming together in support of an initiative that aims to address the needs of vulnerable youth and children under 12 years of age.
The CUIP (Cobourg Under 12 Intersectoral Partnership) program, being piloted by Rebound Child & Youth Services in partnership with the Cobourg Police Service, is focused on targeted early interventions for children under 12 at risk in Cobourg. The program takes a holistic approach to the challenges children and their families may be experiencing, and will employ a combination of programs and services to help them find ways to positively engage at home, at school and in the community.
Funded by a grant from the Ministry of Safety and Correctional Services, this pilot program will initially serve children and their families living in Cobourg, but long-term goals for the program look outward.
“This program is based on a model that has been successfully developed and implemented in Regina,” says Carol Beauchamp, Executive Director at Rebound. “We are delighted to have the opportunity to pilot the CUIP Under 12 initiative here in Cobourg, and look forward to broadening its reach throughout Northumberland. This initiative is an opportunity to take a child and family centered approach to supportive service – providing supports that are the best fit to build a child’s capacity to successfully engage at home, in school and the community.”
Many organizations across Cobourg and beyond have committed time and resources to the program, including Highland Shores Children’s Aid, YMCA Northumberland, Cornerstone Family Violence Prevention Centre, Northumberland County Community and Social Services, Kinark Child & Family Services and Port Hope Community Health Centre. Tying all of these supports together, Rebound will work closely with the Cobourg Police Service to foster these community connections in order to make the biggest impact.
“The Cobourg Police Service is excited to partner with Rebound Child & Youth Services in an innovative program designed to positively impact local youth in this community at an early age,” says Brent Allison, Staff Sergeant for the Cobourg Police Service. “Partnerships with other community organizations are integral to addressing community needs, and the Cobourg Police Service is proud to be able to serve this unique and vibrant community in this initiative.”
