Gord and Patti Ley, Campaign Co-Chairs for the Honouring the Journey Campaign are pleased to announce that a record 30,910 Smile Cookies were purchased by the community in support of Ed’s House Northumberland Hospice Care Centre for a donation to the campaign totalling $30,910.00
“We are absolutely thrilled by the support from the community for Ed’s House through the annual Tim Hortons Smile Cookie campaign”, states Gord and Patti Ley. “We extend a big word of thanks to local Tim Horton owners John & Kim Meeussen, Ron & Jeri Joyce and their staff for all the assistance they provided during Smile Cookie week. We also want to acknowledge the tremendous team of volunteers that lent a hand at each of the Tim Hortons locations.”
Smile Cookie week ran from September 17th to September 23rd and all proceeds from the sales of Smile Cookies which were purchased for a $1 each at all Port Hope, Cobourg and Colborne locations were donated to Ed’s House Northumberland Hospice Care Centre. Smile Cookie sales across Canada topped $7.8 million dollars and proceeds are being distributed to over 500 local charities.
“We are overwhelmed by the generosity of the community, said Trish Baird, Executive Director of Community Care Northumberland. “We have been able to increase the awareness for this exciting project to build a Hospice Care Centre supporting people with life limiting illnesses and their families both in the community and in Ed’s House.”
The Honouring the Journey Campaign’s goal is to raise $9.3M to build Ed’s House Northumberland Hospice Care Centre. Ed’s House will be a hospice hub providing residential hospice care 24/7 at no cost to those receiving the service, along with current Community Hospice programs and outreach services. It will be located in Hamilton Township on Ontario Street at Oliver’s Lane. The two-level building will include 10 Hospice Care suites, 6 operational at opening and 4 future suites with the lower level offering education and support services for the community.
