The Town of Cobourg is issuing instructions for the 2018 municipal election to ensure everyone eligible to vote can do so.
Having gone to paperless elections some years back, the municipality wishes to be procactive and alleviate citizens’ concerns by ensuring all their questions are answered, according to the press release from the legislative-services department. Towards that end, a detailed advertising campaign is being undertaken to get the necessary information out.in advance of Oct. 22.
That is officially voting day, though citizens can cast their ballots any time during the week of Oct. 15 through 22.
A key piece to the puzzle is the voter instruction letter that has been mailed out. Keep this document safe, the news release urged – it will provide important information on the electoral process, including the personal-identifcation number that will be required to cast a ballot, the web address and telephone number that both offer access to the voting portal, and other important information related to the election.
For those requiring more assistance, voter-help locations are set up at both Victoria Hall (55 King St. W.) and the Cobourg Public Library (200 Ontario St.). These will be open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily between Oct. 15 and 19, and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Oct. 22.
Anyone who has not yet received the voter instruction letter is invited to visit Victoria Hall with a piece of identification that provides proof of address to ensure you are registered to vote.
As well, the legislative-services department is offering two more Voter Revision Nights for citizens who would like to make changes to the voter list or who have not yet received the voter instruction letter. These will take place at Victoria Hall from 4 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 10 and Oct. 17.
