Port Hope Police – Fall Fair Weekend

Port Hope Police were busy answering calls for service this past weekend 49 calls for service were recorded over a 24 hour period. Police responded to several calls for disturbances and fights at the Port Hope Agricultural Fair. In one incident an 18 year old man is charged with assault and weapons offences. On the 15th of September Police were dealing with a disturbance involving the man. He was subsequently taken into custody after Police located an expandable baton on his person. The man struggled with Police during the arrest and fled. After a short chase he was taken into custody. He is charged with Assault with intent to resist arrest, carrying a concealed weapon and obstruction of Police. Caleb Roswell will appear in court in October
Police are also investigating another assault that occurred at the Fall Fair. Shortly after 8:00pm on the 15th of September Police received a complaint from Fire Department officials about an injured youth. The youth was slapped by an older male person who had left the area prior to Police being notified. Police were advised the adult male who was in the stands pulled this youth down from the back of the stand and slapped him. The youth received a welt to the side of his face and was treated at Northumberland Hills Hospital. The youth and the adult apparently did not know each other. Police are continuing the investigation and charges are pending.
