In Police Blotter

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – On Monday July 10, 2018 a vehicle fire in the Municipality of Trent Hills ON, sent emergency services to the area of 9th Line West between IXL Road and County Road 30 just north of Campbellford ON.

At approximately 4:15 p.m. members of the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Trent Hills Fire Department attended the scene where the vehicle was fully engulfed.

Through the course of the investigation, it was determined that the utility trailer that was attached to the burnt vehicle had been reported stolen from an address on County Road 30 south of Campbellford ON, earlier that same day.

One male was arrested at the scene. With the assistance of the OPP Emergency Response Team (E.R.T) and the OPP Canine Unit a second male was arrested a short time later in a nearby ditch.

Robert Stephen Schoenmaker (age 57), and Arron Finn (age 33), both from Trent Hills ON, were charged with possession of property obtained by crime. They were released and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on August 29, 2018.

Northumberland OPP is asking for the public’s assistance with this ongoing investigation and asks that anyone with information on this or other crimes call their nearest OPP detachment. Should you wish to remain anonymous, you may call the Peterborough/Northumberland Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) where you may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000 and not have to appear in court.
