Port Hope Police join O.P.P in a Provincial Gun Amnesty Program April 1st-April 30th 2018

In Local, News, Police Blotter

The Port Hope Police Service in co-operation with the Ontario Provincial Police is participating in a Gun Amnesty program for any Ontario resident who wishes to voluntarily surrender unwanted or illegally-owned firearms, weapons, accessories or ammunition.

The Amnesty is a way to provide citizens with a safe way to surrender weapons and enhance public safety. During the Amnesty, Police will not recommend weapons-related Criminal Code charges that might otherwise apply to people who are turning in these items.

*Please note there is no Amnesty offered for people who turn in weapons that have been used in the commission of a crime. No anonymous submissions will be accepted.

Interested firearm owners in the Port Hope Urban Ward are asked to call the Port Hope Police non-emergency number (905-885-8123 extension 3) to make arrangements to bring the firearm to the station at 55 Fox Road.  They are asked to leave the firearm in the vehicle and attend the station to meet the Police Officer.  The firearm will then be removed from the vehicle by a Port Hope Police Officer.
