Northumberland OPP Weekend Incidents

The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with 129 incidents this past weekend, here are some examples:Feb 9:
– Police responded to a domestic dispute over a matrimonial home in Alnwick-Haldimand Twp. Both partners wanted the other to move out and reside elsewhere requesting police force the other to leave. The officers advised the separating couple to seek legal advice and settle ownership of the home through the courts. No further police action was taken.
– A resident on Price Street West in Brighton reported the theft of a black/red Noma Gran Prix snow blower, 10hp sometime over the past two days.*
– A property owner on Crowe River Road in Seymour Twp reported his truck missing and an outbuilding broken in to sometime within the past month. The stolen items include a grey 1987 Ford F150 Ont. Lic. # 6701ZY, a red 1998 Honda CBR 900RR motorcycle Ont. Lic. #6E2A1, an unplated yellow 1998 Suzuki RM250 dirt bike, a Lincoln dual flux core MIG welder and a brand new Vintage Air AC unit for a Chev Malibu in six boxes. Investigation ongoing.*

Feb 10:
– Officers responded to eleven motor vehicle collisions, nine of which occurred on Hwy 401 due in large part to weather and road conditions.
– A silver Mercedes SUV was stopped on Edgewater Drive in Brighton at 9:30pm. The driver, a 30 yr old Colborne man, was charged with Driving while under suspension and faces a court date in April 2018.
– Police received a report of a stolen snow blower from a garage at a Port Hope property. Officers determined that the machine had been picked up by a local repair business as requested by the owner and not stolen.

Feb 11:
– A property owner on Bowmanton Rd in Alnwick-Haldimand Twp reported ongoing damage to his mailbox and trespass signs. Officers notified a local snowmobile club of the complaint and will increase patrols.*
– A resident on Oliphant Street in Brighton reported all four tires of his car slashed sometime overnight.*
– Police attended a Seymour Twp home to check on the well-being of a senior possibly at risk. Officers determined that she was receiving the appropriate level of care with no further action required.

Northumberland OPP officers investigated two accidental 9-1-1 calls, 28 motor vehicle collisions, 14 traffic related complaints and conducted 13 RIDE programs over the weekend.

*Northumberland OPP is asking for the public’s assistance with these ongoing investigations and would ask that anyone with information on these crimes call their nearest OPP detachment.
