The community of Cobourg and surrounding area came together on Monday, August 28, 2023 to show solidarity and love to a family who lost their child in May 2023.

The event was called, “Butterflies at the Frink” in member of Vienna Rose Irwin.

The 20-month-old child died at a day care north of Cobourg in May, 2023. Northumberland OPP are investigating the incident.

But on Monday evening, everyone was invited to the Cobourg Rotary Waterfront Fountain to create chalk butterflies in honour of Vienna.

“Everyone is welcome to come show support and shower the Irwin’s with love,” said the posted that was shared on social media.

And the community did.

Family members, people that knew the family and even strangers came out to draw colourful pictures of butterflies around the fountain.

In some cases there were messages with the drawings.

“Let’s Fill the Frink with Butterflies,” was written in chalk beside a bouquet of flowers with Vienna’s name on them.

Vienna’s favourite music played and there were a number of bubbles machines – just like she’d want it.

Adults and children made drawings over the course of the evening.

At the end of the evening, the bouquet of flowers was placed on a picnic table with the message, “In Loving Memory of Vienna Rose.”

Vienna’s parents thought it was an absolutely beautiful evening, and they are beyond grateful to their friends that organized it and to every single person that attended.
