Northumberland OPP are investigating the death of a man who was swimming in an area that is restricted along the Trent River in Campbellford on Saturday, July 22, 2023.

At approximately 5:15 p.m. all three stations of the Trent Hills Fire Department, Northumberland OPP and Northumberland County Paramedics responded to the area just north of the Ranney Gorge Suspension bridge in Campbellford for a 27-year-old Scarborough man that went under the water and hadn’t surfaced.  The man was with members of his family.

Hastings Fire Department also responded with their rescue boat and Alnwick/Haldimand Township Fire Department responded with a drone.

Emergency services looked along the shoreline and in the water for any sign of the missing individual as family members huddled along the rocky sides of the riverbank.

Approximately two-hours later, firefighters recovered the individual around the area where he was reported missing.  The individual was pronounced deceased.
