It was a special evening on Wednesday, July 5, 2023 as Piggies Bike Nite held a fundraiser in support of Ed’s House Northumberland Hospice Care Centre.
Piggies Bike Nite is named after a Chip Truck on the property of Mackenzie Heating & Air Conditioning at 2971 County Road 28 just south of Dale Road.
Each Wednesday, bikers from around the area meet up at Piggies for supper, camaraderie and a chance to share stories.
On special Wednesday’s they have fundraisers for group’s or charities.
Ed’s House was chosen by organizer Dan MacKenzie.
MacKenzie said his close friend, Kate Lennan is battling cancer and Ed’s House is the charity of her choice.
“This was her way of giving back and I thought it would be a great night to help Ed’s House.”
MacKenizie said close to 90 motorcycles filled the parking lot with numerous other vehicles having to park in the back because of the overflow. Local band Rockshots was amazing entertaining the crowd.
“We’re all here for the same cause. And bikers sometimes give for whatever reason that needs to be done – that’s what we do. I’m so glad that Kate had a good time.”
At the end of the evening when the raffles were being done, Lennan won a bottle of Jim Beam bourbon and gave the first drink to MacKenzie.
“(She’s) a great inspiration. I’ve known her for quite a few years.”
When Lennan was Manager of Northumberland Humane Society several years ago, she came out and accepted a donation then and the two have been friends ever since.
“Things aren’t what they should be sometimes and that’s very unfortunate. I’m just glad we were able to do this for her.”
MacKenzie said he’ll continue to do fundraising for organizations like Ed’s House.
“Who knows – we may all need this place some day.”
Jennie McCaig Lindsay who is the Communications Specialist for Community Care Northumberland and Ed’s House said it was an amazing evening.
“Northumberland always gets together and donates to a great cause.”
“Every event that we do is very important. Because the more that we do and get out there and spread the word out about having such a wonderful hospice care centre in Northumberland – we’re here for you.”
The total raised for the evening going to Ed’s House was $3,000.
