The Manager of the Colborne/Cramahe Food Bank – The Blessing Cupboard was almost speechless when the truck pulled into the Prospect Missionary Church on Monday, June 19, 2023.

The Northumberland Fare Share Food Bank truck was filled with food to help fill the shelves along with money collected from the June Cram-A-Cruiser event held by Cobourg Police.

Nearly 1,700 pounds of food were collected along with $3,565.72.

.“It’s a big help,” said Manager Glenda Quinn.

“There are a lot of people here in need of food.”

Since a devastating fire at Foodland in May, the community has been without its only grocery store.

Four times a year the Colborne/Cramahe Food Bank would hold Food Drives at the store, but since the fire they are in need of assistance.

The Cobourg Police along with Northumberland Fare Share Food Bank holds monthly Food Drives with this months donations delivered to the Colborne/Cramahe Food Bank.

The donation is much larger then they would normally get and Quinn summed it up by saying, “it’s awesome. I just can’t get over it.”

“It’s overwhelming.”

Cobourg Police Chief Paul VandeGraaf said it’s a great partnership between Northumberland Fare Share and the Cobourg Police Auxiliary.

“When the community struggles, like with the fire at Foodland, a lot of different community (members) including the owners of Foodland come forward to try and help these people of this great community.”
