Cobourg Police – Drug Trafficking Charges (Names Released)

Members of the Cobourg Police Service and Port Hope Police Service Criminal Investigation Branches (CIB) arrested two individuals after a traffic stop and search of a residence in an ongoing investigation.
In the spring of 2023, as part of an ongoing enhanced enforcement strategy targeting illegal drug activity affecting our community and the safety of our citizens, members of the Cobourg Police Service CIB and Port Hope Police Service CIB commenced an investigation with the assistance of uniform patrol, and CPS Forensic Identification Services.

On Wednesday, May 17, at 4:15 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle identified in the ongoing investigation in the area of Highway 2 and Theatre Road in Cobourg. The occupants were arrested without incident.

Police located fentanyl, hydromorphone pills, heroin, cocaine, and Canadian currency.

In addition, a search warrant was granted and executed of a residence on Division Street in the Town of Cobourg. As a result of the search of the home, police located crystal methamphetamine, heroin, cocaine, psilocybin, and LSD tablets.

Police seized illicit drugs with an estimated street value of $77,500, including approximately:
• 123 grams of fentanyl
• 104 grams of crystal methamphetamine
• 16.5 grams of heroin
• 145 grams of cocaine
• 12 grams of psilocybin

As a result of the investigation, police arrested and jointly charged Cobourg residents Chelsea Warner (35) and Mark Gordon (34) with several offences:

1. Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – fentanyl contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)

2. Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – hydromorphone contrary to section 5(2) CDSA

3. Possession of a schedule I substance – heroin contrary to section 4(1) CDSA

4. Possession of a schedule I substance – cocaine contrary to section 4(1) CDSA

5. Possession of proceeds of crime under $5000 contrary to section 354(1)(b) CDSA

6. Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – crystal methamphetamine contrary to section 5(2) CDSA

7. Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – heroin contrary to section 5(2) CDSA

8. Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking cocaine contrary to section 5(2) CDSA

9. Possession of a schedule III substance for the purpose of trafficking – Psilocybin contrary to section 5(2) CDSA

10. Possession of a schedule III substance – lysergic acid diethylamide contrary to section 4(1) CDSA

Both accused were held for a bail hearing.
