(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with 140 incidents this past weekend, here are some examples:

July 13

  • Officers attended for a report of a domestic disturbance near Roseneath ON. A thorough investigation was conducted and as a result a 50 year old male from Alnwick- Haldimand Township ON, was arrested and charged with assault and mischief. He was released with a date in August 2018, to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg ON.
  • A 53 year old male from Brighton ON, was arrested and charged with utter threats after police were called to attend an address just south of Brighton, for an ongoing neighbor dispute. The male was released with a date in August 2018, to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg ON.

 

July 14

  • Police attended a campground near Grafton ON, arrested and charged a 48 year old male from York ON, for utter threats in relation to a domestic related incident. He was released and is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice In Cobourg ON, in August 2018. .
  • Just before 3:30a.m. Officers attended an address in the Hamilton Township a rea for reports of a loud party in progress. Officers attended and the party was dispersed without incident.
  • A male party that was camping at a local area campground near Brighton Ontario reported that the front licence plate AC66369 was stolen off his black Dodge pickup truck sometime during the overnight hours. Investigation continuing.

 

July 15

  • Officers arrested and charged 40 year old Shawn Chiplick of Alnwick-Haldimand Township with fail to comply with probation order and drive a motor vehicle while disqualified, after receiving information from a witness of a grey sedan that went into a ditch near Colborne ON. The accused was held in custody pending the results of a bail hearing.
  • Just after midnight an officer stopped an orange sedan on County Road 30 north of Campbellford ON, after observing it to be unable to drive in a marked lane. The officer found the male driver to be under the influence of alcohol. As a result of the investigation 25 year old Samuel Landry of Trent Hills ON, was arrested and charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle, and operation of a motor vehicle with more than 80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood. He was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg ON, on August 8, 2018.
  • Police received several complaints from witnesses just before midnight regarding a pickup truck hauling a box trailer on Highway 401 westbound approaching the Brighton exit. The motor vehicle was reported to be all over the road, unable to drive in a marked lane and driving in a dangerous manner. An officer located the pickup truck travelling southbound on County Road 30 heading towards Brighton ON. The officer stopped the grey pickup truck and found the driver to be under the influen ce of alcohol. As a result of the investigation 54 year old Mark Robinson of Oshawa ON, was arrested and charged with the following offences:
  • Care and control of a vehicle with more than 80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • Driving while ability impaired – alcohol
  • Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor
  • Operate unsafe vehicle

He was released, and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on August 1, 2018.

The O.P.P want to remind motorists to plan ahead when consuming alcohol, use a designated driver, utilize a cab or public transit or stay overnight. Any amount of alcohol or drugs can impact your ability to make sound judgements.

Northumberland OPP officers also investigated 12 accidental 9-1-1 calls, 6 motor vehicle collisions, and 43 traffic related complaints over the weekend.
