At last week’s Northumberland Hills Hospital board meeting, Foundation chair Wendy Ito announced that their Nov. 5 gala had been a smash success.

This week, the foundation issued a press release with further details, bringing in more than $220,000 for the hospital.

This year’s theme was A Black Tie Evening, and it marked a return to the traditional gala format after two years of alternative events made necessary by the COVID-19 pandemic.

It was heart-warming to see the passion and respect for our hospital and health-care workers that filled the room at this year’s gala, Foundation Chief Executive Officer Rhonda Cunningham said in the press release.

Thank you to everyone who had a hand in this achievement – from volunteers to staff, sponsors, on-line auction donors and guests, the list goes on.

We’ve now hosted 20 in-person galas, and never cease to be amazed by how so many come together to make these events possible.”

The gala has become the Foundation’s most financially successful fund-raising event, raising more than $3.75-million to date to fund essential medical equipment used in offering modern advanced care. This year’s gala will support the highest-priority needs across the hospital, with proceeds from the Fund Me portion of the evening going towards the purchase of a new ophthalmic scope (an essential piece of equipment during cataract surgeries).
