Roof Work Progressing on St. Peter’s Anglican Church in Cobourg

Work on St. Peter’s Anglican Church is progressing in Cobourg.

With repairs completed on the inside of the church located at the corner of King Street East and College Street, the focus is now on putting a new roof.

Mark Perkin gave Today’s Northumberland a tour of the site on Thursday, October 27, 2022.

A number of carpenters were on the roof tearing off the shingles and putting down a 3/8″ plywood skin.

On top of that will be a waterproof membrane which will keep the water out of the church.

Once workers have completed that process, they will starting work on framing a new roof over top of the existing roof.

The insulation for the new roof is being stored inside the church until it is needed.

“The church is just full of insulation to keep it out of the weather,” said Perkin.

There will then be new plywood on top of that, along with the steel roof that will last for over 50 years.

Perkin said there have been a few days where it has rained, so the work is approximately one week behind schedule.

It’s hoped the work will be done so it can be occupied for Christmas Mass.
