In Editor Choice, Police Blotter

One person was taken to hospital with what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries after a single vehicle collision in Hamilton Township on Wednesday, September 14, 2022.

Shortly after 10 p.m. emergency services were notified of a single vehicle collision on County Road 2 at Theatre Road in Hamilton Township, between Cobourg and Port Hope.

It appears a vehicle was traveling southbound on Theatre Road went through the stop sign and collided with a hydro pole on the south side of the roadway – severing the pole.

With wires hanging overhead, a bystander rushed to help the individual in the vehicle.  When fire crews from Cobourg and Hamilton Township arrived on scene, they activated a powerful light on top of their fire apparatus lighting up the scene to confirm it was safe for the two people to leave the ditch.

The driver of the vehicle walked to a stretcher and was taken to hospital with what are believed to be minor injuries.

Before emergency services arrived, several vehicles were unaware of the low hanging hydro wires and drove under them, with the wires striking their vehicles.

County Road 2 in the area of the collision was closed for several hours while crews worked on repairing the damaged pole.

There is no word on charges.
