A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Friday, August 19, 2022 at the site of four new Pickleball Courts at King Edward Park in Brighton.
Thanks in part to a $100,000 grant from ICIP Covid Stream for Local Government the courts became a reality.
In 2021 the Municipality of Brighton received a $100,000 grant in combined Federal-Provincial funding through the COVID-19 Resilience Infrastructure Stream.
This funding along with $20,000 from municipal development charges funding and $5000 from parkland reserves have allowed the Municipality of Brighton to construct four new pickleball courts at King Edward Park.
Mayor Brian Ostrander notes the importance of new recreational facilities.
“We are very excited to be able to present these brand new pickleball facilities right here in Brighton’s King Edward Park. Pickleball is a rapidly growing, lower impact, sport and these facilities fill a huge recreational gap for Brighton. My thanks to our staff who managed to get these facilities in place for the season in a very difficult construction period with significant labour and material shortages worldwide and to our Provincial partners who have once again stepped up to assist with the financial contribution for Brighton.”
MPP David Piccini understands how important recreational amenities are to a community.
“Brighton has an active and vibrant senior population. They deserve the best facilities and amenities available,” said David Piccini, MPP for Northumberland-Peterborough South. “It’s wonderful to see the Government of Ontario investing in our seniors, just as they have done for Brighton and Ontario as a whole.”
