MNRF – $1,000 in Fines for Over-limit of Walleye

In Local, News

Two men have been fined a total of $1,000 for fishing offences under the Ontario Fishery Regulations.

Richard Gregory of Kingston and Jimmy Ubdegrove of Napanee pleaded guilty and were each fined $500 for catching and retaining more walleye than allowed under their sport fishing licence.

Court heard that on May 18, 2018, a Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry conservation officer inspected Gregory and Ubdegrove as they returned to a boat launch after fishing on Hay Bay. The officer determined that each angler had caught and retained six walleye, two more than the four walleye per person limit for Fisheries Management Zone 20.

Justice of the Peace Deanne Chapelle heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Napanee, on June 20, 2018.

The public is reminded that catch and possession limits are in place to maintain a sustainable fishery for future generations to enjoy. For more information on fishing regulations, please consult the Ontario Fishing Regulations Summary available at ontario.ca/fishing.
