An 80-year-old man suffered minor injuries after his van went off the road and struck a hydro pole snapping the police on Saturday afternoon at approximately 1 p.m. One witness said the van was traveling eastbound on Elgin Street East when it failed to stop at a stop sign and went through the intersection at Stanton Road, hitting a guide wire for the pole, snapping it in half. The live hydro wires fell on various pieces of equipment. The road was closed by both Cobourg Fire Department and Hamilton Township Fire Department until hydro crews arrived on scene. The man was transported to hospital with apparent minor injuries.
