Update – Port Hope Police Confirm Body Found Along the Ganaraska River Is Madison Chard

In Editor Choice, Local, Police Blotter

Port Hope Police have now confirmed the woman found yesterday is that of Madison Chard.

Chard was reported missing on April 19, 2022 by her family.

Since then, police along with her family have been getting the message out asking for the public’s help in locating Madi.

Andrews said the Service offers it’s condolences to the family and is continuing to work on the cause of death or if foul play was involved.

“At this point were have no cause of death.”

“We have no idea at this time if foul play was involved. We’re hoping the autopsy will give us more answers.”

Police initially thought the missing woman may have been the unwilling participant in human trafficking, but Andrews said they were “shocked” when she was discovered yesterday.

“During any missing person investigation, we investigate tips as they come in, but we also have to explore other avenues. So even though we were working on the human trafficking aspect of the investigation, and even though we searched the river with a drone, we wanted to make sure all avenues were explored by having members of OCEAP come in and work with our officers to do a more intensive search of the area around the river.”
