Northumberland OPP – Driver Charged In School Zone

An officer with the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) laid several charges in a school zone in Brighton ON.

On June 21 2018 an officer was conducting patrols in the area of two local schools in Brighton during the lunch hour. A black sedan with a loud muffler was observed on Terry Fox Drive squealing the tires with smoke coming from the rear wheels and it was accelerating rapidly north bound through a 40km/h school zone.

The vehicle sped away and was located moments later in a nearby driveway. As a result of the investigation Kadmoss Elawar (age 22) from Quinte West was charged with the following offences:

· Obstruct Peace Officer
· Driver Fail to Surrender Licence
· Driving While Under Suspension
· Careless Driving
· Fail to Surrender Insurance Card
· Unnecessary Noise
· Use Plate Not Authorized for Vehicle

He was released, and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on July 25, 2018.

The motor vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days and the plates were removed.
