Cobourg Police – Woman Charged with Obstruction After Providing a False Identity (No Name Released)

On Saturday, February 26, 2022, a woman was stopped by police for a distracted driving offence.

After the subsequent police investigation, it was discovered that the woman provided an alternate identity to avoid prosecution. Police were able to identify the woman, and on Thursday, March 17th, 2022, the woman attended the Cobourg Police Service to turn herself in.

As a result, the 36-year-old Cobourg woman was charged with the following offences:

1) Obstructing a Peace Officer – contrary to section 129(a) of the Criminal Code

2) Adult Personation with intent – contrary to section 403 (1)(d) of the Criminal Code

3) Drive Hand Held Communication Device – contrary to section 78.1(1) of the Highway Traffic Act

4) Drive Under Suspension – contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act

5) Driver Fail to Surrender Licence – contrary to section 33(1) of the Highway Traffic Act

The woman was released on an Undertaking with a future court date of May 11th, 2022
