Peterborough County OPP – Driver Facing Charges After Fleeing Collision Scene

Members of the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a motor vehicle collision on Highway 28 at approximately 11:00am on February 27, 2022. The complainant reported that their pickup truck was rear-ended by a sport utility vehicle (SUV) and the SUV had left the scene. The SUV fled from police several times before it was successfully stopped by members of the Bancroft OPP Detachment. The driver was found to be under the influence of alcohol and prohibited from driving.

David JONES (age 54) of Brudenell, Lyndoch and Raglan Township, Ontario was arrested and charged with:

• Operation while impaired-blood alcohol concentration-80 plus

• Operation while impaired-alcohol and drugs

• Failure to stop after accident

• Dangerous operation

• Flight from peace officer-three counts

• Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code-five counts

• Driving while under suspension

• Failure to comply with release order

• Have care or control of vehicle or boat with cannabis in open baggage

• Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available

The accused appeared for a bail hearing in the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on February 27, 2022.

The Peterborough County OPP reminds motorists to plan ahead when consuming alcohol. Use a designated driver, cab, public transit, or stay overnight. Any amount of alcohol or drugs can impact your ability to make sound judgements.
