Cobourg CAO Asks For Patience As Snow Clearing Resources Maxed Out

In City Hall, Editor Choice, Local, Weather

Two days after the largest amount of snowfall in the last several years, Cobourg like other communities is still digging out.

On Tuesday, January 18, 2022 private contractors worked through the night to start clearing downtown Cobourg of the mounds of snow.

CAO Tracey Vaughan, said it is a “community effort” and like COVID, “we are in this together.”

Although King Street was cleared, some areas, including some benches were still covered in snow. A fire hydrant on the north side of King Street appears to have been broken during the snow clearing.

Vaughan said the cleanup will take “several days” as it involves a large amount of snow requiring a number of resources.

“The good news is that we have deployed all trucks and staff that are available, and we have been working with contractors where possible.”

“The challenge is the unusual amount of snow and the duration of the snowfall.”

“We don’t have any more vehicles or staff to deploy.”

“The crews will continue to work on snow removal, and all efforts will be made to clean up from this storm in most effective and efficient way possible.”

“I know that this is frustrating for residents, and we appreciate everyone’s patience as we work through the aftermath of this winter storm.”
